A traditional health care practice of native people pertaining to human health is termed as Ethnomedicine. The knowledge of certain medicinal plants, animals and minerals that have curative and Palliative effects were transmitted from one generation to another over hundreds of years. Ethnomedicine is the mother of all other systems of medicine such as Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Homeopathy, Nature cure and even modern medicine. Even isolated phytochemicals for prevention and treatment of various health ailments has been in practice since long. The traditional healers are part and parcel of the community and are often familiar with the details of each family and its environs, so that they are in a better position to deal with their day-to-day problems. The complex phytochemical and inconsistent ingredients are major hurdles during drafting any quality control guidelines for traditional and herbal drugs. The quality issues can be classified into three main aspects: cultivation, manufacturing, and distribution. Rigorous implementation of Good Agricultural and Collection Practices (GACP), provided by WHO, is a crucial step towards improving the quality of traditional and herbal medicines.
